Labradorite is a member of the feldspar group, a family of aluminosilicate minerals comprising about 60 percent of Earth’s crust. Labradorite rarely forms euhedral crystals and is instead found in masses of brown or gray stone (though white or clear varieties are known as rainbow moonstone). Labradorite’s brilliant iridescence, known as labradorescence, is owed to two closely related feldspar minerals in its composition, albite and anorthite, which form submicroscopic layers that diffract light moving through it. Labradorite is commonly mined in Canada, China, Finland, Madagascar, Norway, and the United States.

If you walk into any crystal shop and ask for a stone for psychic protection, labradorite is sure to be one of the first stones you’ll be shown. The resplendent play of colors in this gem symbolizes its ability to brighten and strengthen the aura, making it less permeable to harmful, stagnant, foreign energies. Labradorite repairs damage to the aura and chakras, including that which is caused by psychic attack and harmful magick. Simultaneously it filters out all the energy that comes and goes from your aura, helping to maintain your brilliance by purifying what you send out and receive. Wearing a labradorite shield can stop many forms of harmful energy and neutralize psychic attack and negative magick alike. It can offer an additional benefit when consciously directed to do so: it can be programmed to confuse your enemies or attackers. If the source of the harm is known, this defensive technique can throw them off your trail or render them unable to focus sufficiently to cause further harm.
