Perennially popular, amethyst once cost more than gold and diamonds, and it remained valuable until large deposits were uncovered in South America. Amethyst is classified as a semiprecious gemstone, and it is the best known birthstone for the month of February. This violet-hued gem is an accessible and affordable ally for healing, one that is found in deposits around the world.
Amethyst is usually described as a tranquil stone that eases feelings of worry, tension, or stress. Many people also celebrate its ability to open the mind, thereby enhancing meditation, psychic development, and dreaming. Of course amethyst can do these things, but its gifts run so much deeper that meets the eye.
After much reflection and research, it became apparent that this crystal would be a good long-term support for 2023 as it unfolds. Firstly, let’s take a peek into the numerology of the year ahead. Adding up the digits in the year (2+0+2+3), we arrive at a sum of seven. In esoteric circles, the number seven is connected to themes of wisdom, wholeness, and the search for meaning. One of the chief stones associated with the number seven is amethyst. It is a gemstone that perfectly underscores seven’s symbolism of the union of heaven and earth and a wholeness of body, mind, and spirit. It is a gem that also helps us uncover our purpose in life, prompting change and transformation along the way to realizing our potential.
This violet gemstone is said to be a representation of the seventh ray or violet ray in certain spiritual and esoteric teachings. The seventh ray is the carrier of initiatic wisdom, a vehicle for alchemy and transubstantiation. Amethyst has accreted a lot of similar symbols over the eons, and we’ll unpack them in my upcoming masterclass.
